About Creepy New England

Creepy New England is a place for stories that live in the space between history and legend — the kind that get passed around at family gatherings, whispered about in quiet towns, or remembered after an unsettling night in the woods.

We focus on the strange, the unexplained, and the uniquely regional: cryptid sightings, haunted places, and long-standing local legends from all across New England. Some stories are old and rooted in folklore. Others come from people today who experienced something they can’t quite explain.

Our goal is to gather these accounts with care and curiosity — not to sensationalize, but to preserve and explore the unknown side of this place we call home.

Who We Are

Creepy New England was started by Max Murphy, a native New Englander who’s always been drawn to the weird and mysterious. Growing up in Massachusetts, Max spent years researching local legends, reading about strange sightings, and asking too many questions. This site is the result of that lifelong curiosity — a way to document, share, and keep these stories alive.

Meet the Author

Max Murphy is a native New Englander with a lifelong fascination for the unknown. Raised in Massachusetts, he grew up surrounded by old forests, historic towns, and stories that didn’t always have clear explanations. That early curiosity about what might be hiding in the shadows eventually led to a deeper interest in regional folklore, cryptids, and the strange-but-true accounts that make New England so unique.

He created Creepy New England as a way to collect and share the legends, sightings, and myths that continue to shape the culture and imagination of this area. From haunted backroads to mysterious creatures, Max approaches each story with both skepticism and respect — aiming to document these tales with thoughtfulness and care, whether they come from centuries-old records or modern-day encounters.

When he’s not writing or researching, Max enjoys hiking local trails, exploring small towns, and talking to people who have stories to tell. He believes folklore is more than just entertainment — it’s a living part of who we are.
